Marianela is a Peruvian filmmaker, archivist and film teacher based in Madrid. She has directed seven short films and two feature documentaries that explore themes of family, memory and identity. Her work has been screened internationally and received several awards, including Best Feature Documentary at the Festival de Cinéma Péruvien à Paris. Her first feature, Rolling Strong (2016), received production and distribution support from the Peruvian Ministry of Culture, while her second feature, The Bastard Images (2024), was awarded Best Peruvian Documentary by APRECI. She holds an MFA in Film Production from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s in Film Preservation from Elias Querejeta Zine Eskola. With over fifteen years of teaching experience, she has worked at several universities in Peru and led film workshops in juvenile rehabilitation centers. She currently co-directs the International Master’s in Documentary Film at Instituto del Cine Madrid and continues developing new projects in the field of nonfiction cinema.
