Biotop is a video collage and impressive filmic essay on the evolution of species. With the desire to show the dehumanising effects of modernity the film contrasts urban space, shown from the perspective of Google Maps, with shots of wild animals. However, far from being a tale of the triumph of industrial mechanisation, the film shows how wildlife adapts to new conditions and creates new environments and networks suitable for life: these are known as biotopes. Concurrently, a new species of human is adapting to electronic networks, digital biotopes, symbolised in the film by a interactive mapping.
