Aesops, hold the line is a film that delves into the world of fortune telling. The documentary looks at different types of fortune telling from those who practice palmistry, through to those who profess to be able to read your future through your eyes, to those who can channel spirits through drawing.
The documentary is interspersed with animations and YouTube footage of televised fortune tellers this gives the film an intertextuality allowing multiple access points in understanding the context for fortune tellers both of the fortune teller and their clients.
The wide array of fortune telling is contextualised through showing the clients, those who seek and pay for spiritual guidance. Some of the most interesting points of the documentary occur when showing the domestic lives of the clients of the fortune tellers. Moravec chooses to show these people in their homes either on the phone waiting to speak to a fortune teller on the television, or just watching fortune telling channels, in these moments the camera frames the spiritual within the domestic setting up an eerie dynamic between the grandiose process of prediction and its quotidian realities.
