21 x New York is a film essay about the human condition in the 21st century told through personal stories of 21 people on the subway in New York. Commuters, old and young, from different social backgrounds, with mixed economic trajectories, and all with extremely varied reasons to be travelling on the subway. The film follows each subject to the end of their journey and observes moments in their lives, sometimes funny and absurd, sometimes sad and dramatic. The film looks at a boy who cannot find his place among his peers, a man who spent half of his life in prison, a Polish woman who came to the NYC metropolitan area from a small town, a psychoanalyst, a drag queen. The scope of the characters is wide and diverse, but together they make an impression of being one protagonist. They are united by the mood and emotions pulsating in New York.
