Selected by Antonia Girardi, Festival Director of FIDOCS, for Recommended By...Festivals, a partnership with 11 film festivals from across both North and South America. With this collaboration we chart a course all along the map of the Americas as well as through the contemporary documentary scene.
"Between the observation of silent study scenes and the pleasure of the word recited aloud, Las facultades (Eloísa Solaas, 2019, Argentina) immerses us in the mental circuits of a series of students, from different disciplines, who are preparing to face their end-of-year exams. Winner of our Latin American First Court competition in 2017, selected as the official selection of the 2019 Fidocs International Competition, the film by Eloísa Solaas invites us to rethink education as a passion that is both subversive and liberating, which transforms language and bodies." - Antonia Girardi
Students of different careers prepare to take final exams. Botany, anatomy, sociology, medieval philosophy, criminal law, morphology, theoretical physics and piano. Each one uses their own abilities to cope with the situation of oral exposure, the most common evaluative practice in the National Universities of Argentina. Throughout the waiting moments in the halls, between the drama and the absurdity of each exam, the subjects begin to find unexpected relationships.
