Roisin Conaty from the Ricky Gervais series After Life became the best newcomer to British comedy at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival already in 2010, but she waited with her author series. Her comedy about a woman in her thirties, who, through her own efforts, constantly finds herself in unpredictably chaotic situations, is a slightly more realistic, contemporary version of the mishaps of the well-known British chaotic Bridget Jones. Along with Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who was catapulted to Hollywood by the drama-comedy Fleabag and the screenplay for the first season of Killing Eve, Conaty belongs to today’s strong generation of British female comedians who write series for themselves. “GameFace is a romantic woman with a big heart that everyone loves,” is a statement by The Daily Telegraph, with which most British reviewers agree.
