A stylistically outstanding historical drama set in the medieval period, this is a justly acknowledged milestone of Czech cinema based on the ballad-like prose of Vladislav Vančura. It tells the story of the daughter of afeudal lord who is kidnapped by neighboring robber knights and becomes the mistress of one of them. It has been judged the most important title in the country’s century-long cinema history and represents a unique work in Czech historical cinema.
