Triggered by the memoirs of a medical missionary in the Afghan borderlands, the film reworks photographs in order to search for clues about colonial crimes on the North West Frontier British India at the turn of the 20th century. By rearranging marginal details, and by looking into the shadows that haunt the British colonisers, the film draws attention to the persistence of the imperial imagination.
