On a cold February morning, twelve-year-old Niki and his family arrive at the Kharkiv metro station to hide from the terrifying war raging in the streets of their city. For Niki's family, daylight becomes synonymous with mortal danger. The boy is not allowed to leave the premises of the station, where he lives with hundreds of other people, under the constant glow of neon lights. Niki wanders aimlessly through the deserted carriages and platforms, and when he meets Vika, a whole new world opens up before him. The children gradually grow closer and together find the courage to feel the sunlight on their faces again.
