Dóra Maurer’s experimental film Triolets (1980–81) is an extension of Relative Swingings: swinging movements of an image frame split horizontally into three become a unified, single motion picture construct. Opera singer Eszter Póka’s improvizational vocals attend the visual displacements, thereby evolving 18 kinds of random harmonies. Triolets is a musical and, at the same time, audio-visual experiment transplanting the rhythmic principle of the triolet into film.
