The early years after the communist coup the relationship of Josef and Maria was still stronger than the politics-charged milieu they lived in and which they managed to suppress from their lives. However, in the end the times hunted them down. At first it was the nationalization of their studio, later a stage-managed trial against Josef, because the communists expected to find compromising materials in the family photo-archive. Their story is accompanied by affectionate correspondence imprisoned Josef sent from the jail. It shows their defiance to the absurd era in which Josef and Marie had to live.
