A third class sleeping car of the Trans-Siberian train traveling through Russia. What are the passengers dreaming of, and which of the dreams come true?
Directed by Iris Olsson Between Dreams is a short documentary shot on the Trans Siberian railway. In the film people are depicted sleeping in the open third class sleeping wagon side by side and in voice-over we hear their dreams. In the dreams the fears and hopes of the passenger’s everyday life are reflected as well as the Russian belief in prophecies.
Between Dreams is one of six short documentary films shot as a part of the Cinetrain project, a project by six upcoming European directors with international crews. The film is realized solely on the 3698 mile long Trans Siberian railway between Moscow and Vladivostok. The crew travelled for three weeks stopping at cities to charge camera batteries and to edit. The passengers are mainly Russian locals who travel shorter distances between cities to work or to visit relatives.
