The third feature film by Pierre Perrault that takes place on Isle-aux-Coudres entitled Les Voitures d’eau focuses on people who, in the times of steel ships, international competition and monopoles, sail on wooden schooners. Men of the sea, whose actions speak louder than words, captains of the last schooners sailing the river experience the end of the era of handicrafts, after which their sons will no longer be able to find their place. The first part of the film shows the knowledge and human and verbal richness of experts in wooden ships. The second part, looking back on a tragic sailing season on St Lawrence River, raises important questions about the economic and political integration of French-speaking Canadians.
