A 10-film retrospective of German documentarian Peter Nestler, featuring restored copies of several of his greatest works.
Last month, the festival Punto de Vista in Navarra hosted the first major Spanish survey of the 60-year career of the essential German documentarian Peter Nestler. We are delighted to present several new restorations of Nestler's work on our own platform, along with his new documentary: An Open Mind (2022).
Our own survey, which launches on International Workers' Day, charts movements of working people disenfranchised across the world. Nestler shows us peasant art movements in Peru, gives space to Roma communities to tell their stories—whether in his latest work or in Being Gypsy, his 1970 masterpiece that appears here in a new restoration—investigates Greek resistance against fascism and imperialism, or turns his lens closer to home, creating piercing portraits of Germany in the '60s.
