The arrival of new digital technologies has significantly transformed communication in today’s society. It has affected all of its parts, influencing both our personal and working lives. It did not avoid the field of art either, considerably expanding the possibilities of filmmaking. With a mobile phone equipped with a camera viewfinder, anyone can suddenly become a potential author and observer of the surrounding world. However, if the film language can be spoken by anyone, why keep traditionally schooled filmmakers? Is it possible to make a quality documentary account by means of a fast mobile recording at all?
The selection of 5 short documentary films screened in the new competition category Phone Dox of the Croatian festival is here to convince the audiences that mobile phone filmmaking can be a positive surprise, both in terms of aesthetic and content. Despite the fact that the presented documentaries do not meet the temporal and narrative demands of feature-length films, they clearly and significantly point out the unstoppable phenomenon of our time; the constant presence of its recording.
In collaboration with ZagrebDox festival, watch 5 competition films from the Phone Dox category from February 26 to March 2, 2014 at DAFilms.com for free!
