Spend time with new documentaries from the Cronograf Festival

The longer days of spring can serve as an invitation to explore unknown places. One such place which is not to be overlooked in the pursuit of adventure and new cinema is Chișinău, the capital of Moldova. From May 12 – 18 it will host the 13th edition of the International Documentary Film Festival – Cronograf. Although we cannot offer you a ticket to Moldova, we can however offer an insight into this year’s festival program. Have a look what to expect from the Cronograf festival‘s programming department at DAFilms.com between May 16 – 22!

Cronograf is currently the only international documentary film festival held in Moldova. Apart from being unique in the local context, since its foundation in 2001 the festival has also won recognition on the international film circuit, becoming one of the most important cultural highlights of the year in Southeastern Europe. Now in its thirteenth year, the festival annually brings to Chișinău eminent guests from the world of documentary film. This year, the members of the festival jury include the noted American director, producer and architect Christian D. Bruun, executive producer of the highly acclaimed film The Man Who Saved The World, and Jana Ripplová, head of the successful international project for alternative documentary distribution, KineDok, and a collaborator of the Institute of Documentary Film in the Czech Republic.

Apart from the main program which features films from all over the world – Germany, France, Greece, and the Middle East this year – the festival also includes a section entitled CadRO which focuses exclusively on films documenting life in Romanian-speaking areas. The festival also presents a special focus on local independent and television projects and films for younger audiences.

Have a taste of the documentary films in competition at the 13th annual IDFF Cronograf at DAFilms.com! Will the audience and the jury be taken with STARLESS DREAMS, a coming of age story about girls who are forced to grow up due to the weight of dire circumstances? Or will they favor MR. GAGA, a film exploring the life and work of the internationally renowned choreographer Ohad Naharin, a figure bursting with originality and boundless talent? Or perhaps they will be captivated by the visually compelling ALIYAH DADA, which uses Dada aesthetic to recount the history of Romanian Jews? Will contemplative audiences respond to the wordless impressionist essay film MOMENTS OF SILENCE, or dance along with the exuberant music documentary 100 RISINGS? We shall find out on the final day of the festival, 18th May 2016...
