This year’s autumn at docalliancefilms.com will bring a rich festival harvest, presenting a wide-ranging programme to be appreciated not only by festival spectators but also by those who have not been to any festival yet but are interested in an encounter with the documentary film. Already in the past two years, the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival was accompanied by a special programme watched by its viewers directly from the comfort of their homes, online.

This year, too, docalliancefilms.com will start its “autumn online festival” in a rather traditional way – by presenting last year’s winning films of IDFF Jihlava. From 21 to 26 October, the following films will be available for free: best Czech documentary Ivetka and the Mountain by Vít Janeček, René by Helena Třeštíková awarded both by Jihlava audiences and the European Oscar, and best world documentary Iraqi Short Films, a unique film composed out of scenes made for private purposes almost exclusively on mobile phones by local and American soldiers, rebels, civilians and journalists, compiled into an intimate and multilayered collage by young Argentine director Mauro Andrizzi. Further on, the winning film of the Between the Seas section The Flower Bridge by Thomas Ciulei and the best experimental film NightStill by Elke Groen from the Fascinations section will also be presented.

On October 27, the online programme will continue by presenting successful competition films from the past years of the German DOK Leipzig festival, held at the same time as the Jihlava festival in 2009. Until November 1, visitors will be able to watch for free the films BerlinBeirut, Don’t Get Me Wrong and Useless Dog. In the first film, Berlin and Beirut, cities of a similar fate, occupied, damaged, divided and finally built anew in the past, merge to become a single metropolis, a single space giving us the sense of the burden of the past as well as of the lightness of life in the stories and memories of director Myrna Maakaron. Romanian film Don’t Get Me Wrong by director **Adina Pintilie takes us to a Romanian asylum, revealing the everyday lives of its patients to us in an unobtrusive way. The last film is a witty documentary by director Ken Wardrop about a useless shepherd’s dog who loves sleeping most of all.

During the week from November 1 on, festival echoes of IDFF Jihlava will be held. Festival visitors will be able to remember while all of the others at least glance at the past festival week via the portal. To be retrospectively revealed are not only previews from the film screen but also from the accompanying programme – you can look forward to the improvisation of the Vosto5 Theatre, discussions with directors or authorial readings.

The autumn festival season will be definitively closed by the Danish festival CPH:DOX Copenhagen and again, docalliancefilms.com will be there. From November 16 on, immediately after the end of the festival, this year’s winning films will be available for free at the portal.

DAFilms.com is powered by Doc Alliance, a creative partnership of 7 key European documentary film festivals. Our aim is to advance the documentary genre, support its diversity and promote quality creative documentary films.
