New documentary premiere has been taken over from the cinema screens of the Cannes International Film Festival into the distribution of the DAFilms portal. No More Fear tells story of living in the shadow of fear and expectation of salvation; story about the threat of violence and the desire for freedom; story of thwarted plans and resurrected hope.
“The very poverty and destitution could not make the people go into the streets; we have been feeding on fear for too long,” says one of the protagonists of No More Fear about the recent revolutionary events in Tunisia which have triggered off the Arab Spring. He points out that the Tunisian revolution was driven by hope. Made by Tunisian director Mourad Ben Cheikh, No More Fear is the first feature-length documentary to deal with this theme. However, that was only one of the reasons for the film to deserve a premiere at the 2011 Cannes IFF. There is no doubt that the following documentaries focusing on this theme will be more compact and analytical than Ben Cheikh’s film; however, No More Fear primarily captures the genuine spirit of the tumultuous times.
The director combines scenes of street protests and interviews with active personalities of the revolution as well as representatives of Tunisian opposition living abroad. Due to the fresh material, there is no wonder that the film rather floats in the euphoric and hectic atmosphere currently experienced by the Tunisian society. Though the film seems unorganized and boundless, the force of its immediate witness account is disarming. It is a telling proof of the courage and resolution of the young generation; it was these factors that have brought about the Arab Spring rather than Facebook or Twitter.
