The unique premiere of Sacro GRA, the first documentary to ever win Venice IFF, will be held on Monday, May 5, 2014. On that day, the film will be presented in 6 selected Czech and Slovak cinemas, at DAFilms.com online portal and on Film Europe Channel. Moreover, the Prague gala premiere will be attended by the director and recent holder of the prestigious Golden Lion Gianfranco Rosi. On this occasion, DAFilms.com film portal presents a free online retrospective of Rosi’s previous films as well as a related photo application for the viewers.

Having introduced Gianfranco Rosi to the company of extraordinary filmmakers such as Jean-Luc Godard, Luis Buñuel, Luchino Visconti, or, among the more recent ones, Darren Aronofsky and Sofia Coppola, the unique victory at the prestigious Venice International Film Festival deserves a unique release. On May 5, 2014, Czech and Slovak viewers will have a choice of how to watch the winning film. Those who enjoy dark cinema halls will be able to pick one of six cinemas participating in the international gala premiere. These include Cinema Světozor (Prague), University Cinema Scala (Brno), Bio Central (Hradec Králové), Pastiche Filmz (Olomouc), Sněžník Cinema (Děčín) and Kino Film Europe (Bratislava). Those who prefer watching films from the comfort of their homes will have two options. Either they can tune in to the Film Europe Channel or watch the film at the DAFilms.com online portal.

In case of the online premiere, the viewers will be able to decide how much; if at all; they will pay for watching the film at DAFilms.com. By asking “How much is the Golden Lion worth?”, the portal calls upon all visitors to decide themselves how much they value the unique documentary. “One of the options is to really choose zero and watch the film for free; however, the viewers can just as well pay a symbolical or traditional fee. The decision of how much they value the unique film is up to each one of them. Naturally, there are no limits for millionaires,” says Diana Tabakov of DAFilms.com about the principle known from online music distribution.

As a bonus, the DAFilms.com portal presents an online retrospective of the previous works by Gianfranco Rosi from Monday, May 5 to Sunday, May 11. For a whole week, the portal will present worldwide and for free the controversial film El Sicario, Room 164 (2010), a fascinating account of the life of a Mexican mass murderer, Below Sea Level (2008) from the environment of an American independent community living outside common civilization as well as the director’s debut Boatman (1993) capturing the specific life along the Ganges River in India.

Those who will choose a social event and will decide for the cinema will definitely not regret it. As an icing on the cake, Prague’s Cinema Světozor will present the film in the personal presence of director Gianfranco Rosi and with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague **within the **Documentary Monday series. However, the other cinemas, too, are up for special debates and happenings; for instance, Olomouc-based Pastiche Filmz will present an open-air screening with a barbecue, an afterparty and an exhibition. In Hradec Králové, the premiere will be accompanied by a lecture by architect Ondřej Teplý of Offcity. Děčín’s Sněžník Cinema will recall the lengthy and troublesome construction of the local highway bypass.

The last but no less interesting programme related to the premiere consists in the launch of the original photo application My Highway. It invites viewers to actively document their journeys, roads and highways, with the best pictures to be screened in all of the 6 Czech and Slovak cinemas during the evening premiere of Sacro GRA. Any amount of photographs can be sent as an e-mail attachment to mojedalnice@sacrogra.cz. A highway is more than asphalt and endless tailbacks. A highway; that’s also random encounters at oil stations, faces of drivers in morning traffic jams, landscapes framed by car windows as well as the choice of specialties in roadside restaurants. All that makes up the unique mosaic of life along highways, as captured in the winning film by Gianfranco Rosi.
