The media are coming up with a whole range of sources and information revolving around the significant organized protest against the communist regime in Czechoslovakia – the founding of Charter 77. Its signatories were leading personalities of the cultural and scientific world of then Czechoslovakia that were able to voice their opinion on the continuing normalization and one-party government. Each of these personalities had a powerful and fascinating life story surpassing the local standards by its inspirational reach. You can see for yourselves in acclaimed and awarded films capturing the life stories of persecuted artists, including The Magic Voice of a Rebel by Olga Sommerová and The Gospel according to Brabenec by Miroslav Janek. What is also remarkable is looking into the life of forced exiles behind the Iron Curtain, including poet and writer Jan Vladislav, or the society-wide study History of Jan Šabata. All with English subtitles!
