The year 2018 brings anniversaries of many important historical events. In collaboration with the National Film Archive, we will present films capturing or reflecting the time of their making while putting the given events in context and perspective throughout the year 2018.
In 1918, independent Czechoslovakia was formed; 1938 brought the occupation of Sudetenland and the establishment of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia under the actual rule of Nazi Germany. In 1948, most East European countries experienced a communist coup; for over forty years, the world became divided by the Iron Curtain. 1968 brought revolutionary storms to the whole of Europe and new hope to Czechoslovakia; which, however, was destroyed by the invasion of the Warsaw Pact armies. Film as a mass medium has always influenced its time while also being formed by it. Follow the historical events from their perspective and in their historical context!
