We present the Austrian festival Crossing Europe and its program. Held in Linz, Upper Austria, the city festival traditionally screens films from across Europe in sections dedicated to fiction, documentary and local films. It also presents the YAAAS! Youth Program section focused on young viewers who select the films and host Q&As with the filmmakers.
In cooperation with the festival programmers, we have prepared a collection of films selected for Crossing Europe in the past years. The Turkish documentary Meteors is a metaphorical portrait of a Kurdish village where meteors can be seen in the night sky. They bring back long forgotten memories of the villagers and open up the unresolved trauma of the past. The Call captures the Italian civic duty to sit on the jury at court; close-up shots show the individual jurors: nervous, indecisive, witty, from all walks of life. Nine female directors from nine European countries filmed their grandmas, capturing their personal story as well as the big history of 20th century Europe in The European Grandma Project. The selection further includes Brexitannia, The Woman and the Glacier and Human Geography. About the festival: Held annually in April since 2004, CROSSING EUROPE Film Festival Linz devotes its program to auteur cinema from Europe. Over the six days of the festival, CROSSING EUROPE offers a program of approximately 160 outstanding, hand-picked fiction films and documentaries to international film and press representatives, film industry guests and Austrian audiences.
