The 23rd edition of the French Film Festival will take place from November 19 to 25, 2020. In light of the current public health measures, the festival goes online and will take place on the platform Dafilms. During the seven festival nights, seven exceptional French films will be screened, and a special programme will be offered throughout the festival.
The Festival will open with the documentary Aznavour by Charles, an intimate insight into the life of one of the greatest French chanson singers. In close cooperation with Aznavour himself, the director Marc di Domenico compiled the artist’s impressive personal film archives into a documentary narrated by the actor Romain Duris, and providing a testimony not only of Aznavour’s career but of a whole era.
In cooperation with Czech film distributors, the Festival will feature two special new releases – a poetic summer comedy À l'abordage by Guillaume Brac which was awarded the FIPRESCI prize at Berlinale and a documentary Woman by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, a renowned reporter, photographer and director, and the French-Ukrainian director Anastasia Mikova. In this epic documentary, more than 2,000 women from 50 countries tell their stories of femininity across national, cultural or generational borders. The Festival will also feature the pre-premier of another documentary Skywalk Above Prague, a portrait of the tightrope artist Tatiana Mosio-Bongonga by two Czech directors Václav Flegl and Jakub Voves. The film shows not only the audacious walk on a tightrope across the Vltava river in Prague as part of the opening ceremony of the last year’s contemporary circus and theatre festival Letní Letná, but mainly the personality of this exceptional artist and an important figure of French new circus.
The bonus programme of this year’s edition will run throughout the festival with the Short Film Evening and the film Solo, a tribute to Artemio Benki, the French producer and director who had lived and worked in Prague since the early 1990s and passed away earlier this year.
More information will be available on the French Film Festival website.
