Mirjam Landolt is a Swiss filmmaker and visual artist. She grew up in central Switzerland, near the lake and surrounded by mountains. In 2002, she arrived on the shores of Lake Léman, where she trained as a photographer. She graduated 2006 with a degree in photography from the CEPV (Centre d’enseignement professionnel de Vevey, Switzerland). Afterwards, she set out to discover other cultures, people, languages and horizons. She came back with the desire to immerse herself in the language of film. In 2012, she finished her studies at the HEAD (Haute école d’art et de Design) in Geneva with a Bachelor’s degree in Cinema. Today, numerous filming experiences and travels later, she continues her projects and collaborations around images.
In her work, she questions and records images she encounters on her journey, making them resonate with each other. To tell stories, with moving and still images. Preferably when the light makes them visible on a physical medium, such as film or paper. The themes that are dear to her and that she questions revolve around nature, especially around water, communities, rituals, the notion of freedom and the mixture between reality and the imaginary that the images know how to create. Her forms of expression are cinema, sound, as well as different forms of photography and its transformation, such as cyanotypes and anthotypes.
