Carlos Reichenbach was a Brazilian director and cinematographer. Born in 1945 in Porto Alegre, he quickly moved to São Paulo, where he was raised and where he made his first short film, Esta rua tão Augusta (1969). In the following years, much like other directors of his generation in the city of São Paulo, he shot and directed several low-budget feature films, short and documentaries in the region known as Boca do Lixo. He is considered a pioneer of the Cinema Marginal movement and is critically acclaimed for his clever combination of popular and erudite elements in his films, most notably* Lilian M. - Confidential Report* (1975), Film Dementia (1986) and Buccaneer Soul (1993), in a trademark directorial style focused on themes of sex, philosophy and poetry.
