Pedro Neves Marques (Lisbon, 1984), young artist that lives and works in Lisbon, London and Sao Paulo, has made of contamination between various scientific fields the fil rouge of all his works in which the individualization of the field of investigation, whether it be historical, sociological or aesthetic, escapes every definition. To understand his modus operandi just think of his Portuguese education: he obtained a degree in 2007 in Plastic Arts at the Facoltà di Belle Arti in Lisbon and attended, in 2009 and 2010, the Master program Art&Politics at Goldsmith University in London.
In Pedro Neves Marques’s production, in which he expresses himself primarily through photography, installation and video, writing has always held a fundamental role. On one hand its use is intimately connected to the inability to translate experience into visual language, on the other, it’s associated to the power of subjectivity. In the artist’s works, therefore, the definition of one’s own self in relation to the other presumes the communicative difficulty of sharing one’s own experience.
