Ragnheiður Gestsdóttir is a visual artist and independent filmmaker. Working with film, video and installations she crosses conventional, abstract and experimental realms while at the same time including aspects of all of them. Her artwork is poetic and comical and often times marked by her background in anthropology. In her cinematic work Ragnheiður seeks to expand and explore the form of the documentary film. Recent works include As if We Existed, an existential fantasy based on the personal experiences of artist Ragnar Kjartansson during his six month long performance at the Venice Bienniale. Her education includes an MFA in fine arts from Bard College (2012) and an MA in visual anthropology from Goldsmiths College (2001).
