Two directors, four films, incalculbly diversity of today´s society

Although there are two of them, their films only have one aim; to show the transformation of today’s society, with a light dose of humour thrown in. Whether the Italian duo of directors Massimo D’Anolfi and Martina Parenti depict untraditional environments, such as airport lounges and military grounds, or capture the social rituals of weddings and of the chase for financial success, they are always able to tell the big story through the life stories of individual people. It is the story of the daily, invisible and at times even tragicomic transformation of our lives. Watch 4 films by the filmmaking duo from Monday, May 12 to Sunday, May 18 at DAFilms.com for free!

For several years, Massimo D’Anolfi and Martina Parenti have been a stable creative duo whose film works have won acclaim both in Italy and on the international documentary scene. The premiere screenings of their films at big film festivals, such as Berlinale and Visions du Réel, as well as special awards from Canada’s Hot Docs and Switzerland’s Locarno, prove the renown they have won in the field of documentary film. The two directors have finally sealed their passion for documentary film by founding their own production company Montmorency Film based in Milan, Italy. It was this production company that gave rise to all 4 unique films now available for free at DAFilms.com.

Performance, performance and more performance. The mantra of today’s society is merciless and the protagonists of GREAT EXPECTATIONS (2009) know that too well. The three Italian businessmen living under constant pressure and in fear of failure appear at a turning point of their careers. Will they really become “leaders of the future” or will their dreams of spectacular success go up in smoke? The diverse forms of social success are also depicted in the duo’s first film project THE BETROTHED (2007). There, the directors follow the wedding phenomenon, approaching it from the perspectives of representatives of various roles; the couples to be married, the priest as well as the family members.

The third presented film, THE CASTLE from 2011, has received the greatest international response. The filmmakers follow the obsession with safety, which has escalated significantly after the tragic date of 9/11, with a focus on airport procedures. Where are the limits of the absurdity of the obsession and where are the limits of man’s freedom? Another untraditional environment, this time that of a military proving ground, is captured in the duo’s latest film DARK MATTER (2013). Three stories, with their three different perspectives, mediate the struggle of man, represented by military technology, and nature, which has become a tool of military training.
