Across its competitions and thematic sections, the Doc Alliance festival CPH:DOX has become a space where documentary cinema explores not only the world as it is, but also the systems through which we try to understand and inhabit it.
This selection brings together films from the past four editions of CPH:DOX that approach knowledge from different perspectives. Some turn to science and observation, revealing hidden structures of the natural world, from the microscopic life explored in Planktonium to the institutional ecosystems examined in Archive of the Future. Others explore cosmology, history, and cultural memory, as in Wilfred Buck, where astronomy becomes a bridge between scientific inquiry and Indigenous knowledge.
Another thread runs through films that consider bodies and communities as political spaces. In This Is Ballroom, performance and collective celebration become acts of resistance, while Outside observes lives shaped by social systems and institutional care.
The program also includes our new DAFilms worldwide release, Under the Sky Shelter, which competed for the DOX:AWARD in 2022.
Together, these works reflect the spirit of CPH:DOX - documentary cinema as a field where science, politics, and lived experience intersect, offering new ways of understanding the world around us.
DAFilms.com is powered by Doc Alliance, a creative partnership of 7 key European documentary film festivals. Our aim is to advance the documentary genre, support its diversity and promote quality creative documentary films.
