Documentary Christmas Gifts: TOP 2014

The last film event of 2014 is fully under the control of the viewers of the DAFilms.com portal. It presents a selection of films that became the most sought after documentary goods at www.dafilms.com in the last year. Be surprised and inspired by the selection of the most popular documentary films of DAFilms.com in 2014 and enjoy your film Christmas gifts from December 22 to January 4 for free!

The regular viewers of the portal will definitely not be surprised by the fact that the top films of 2014 include several films that have dominated this year’s most popular film events and retrospectives. After breaking the existing viewing records in the fall, the creator of the long-term observational method, director Helena Třeštíková, has made it to the top at the end of the year as well, sending her acclaimed film KATKA to the last battle for the viewers’ favour. An interview with the director made in September 2014 on the occasion of her first world online retrospective is available here.

Following on the heels of the work by the internationally popular filmmaker is ARTEL by Ukrainian director Sergei Loznitsa who ruled the DAFilms.com portal in the first three December weeks. The viewers could first watch his poetic documentary retrospective and later his award-winning portrait of the Ukrainian revolution MAIDAN. Those who will pick Artel among the selected films should not miss the director’s MASTER CLASS and the personal letter Sergei Loznitsa wrote for his fans.

Experimental films are not lacking in this year’s viewers‘ selection either. IMITATIONS OF LIFE by Canadian director Mike Hoolboom with its 10 chapters will please all those who are not afraid to get to the root of contemporary visual culture, explore its past and succumb to the futuristic ideas of its future.

The flag of the awakening Czech documentary is carried by several films in the selection. Young Czech director Ivo Bystřičan untangles the complicated history of a Czech highway in BYEWAY. While PRESIDENT WANTED provides a humorous commentary on the first Czech direct presidential election, the graduation film SHOW! looks behind the scenes of the surprisingly adult workings of a children’s girl band. Czech audiences can also exclusively watch the global film hit SPIRIT OF 45 by renowned director Ken Loach and the winner of Venice IFF SACRO GRA by Gianfranco Rosi.

Open your film gifts not only on Christmas Day but also in the whole two weeks from December 22 to January 4 at DAFilms.com for free! The viewers‘ selection TOP 2014 is waiting for you 24 hours a day!
